Introduction

Dear colleagues,

With this third and last issue (volume 25) of Turkish Journal of Pathology in 2009, I would like to share some important developments in the last three months since the previous issue.

Turkish Journal of Pathology is now indexed by DOAJ and NewJour after TÜBİTAK/ULAKBİM, and EBSCO.

Archiving of all manuscripts in the web site published in Turkish Journal of Pathology from its first issue in 1985 to 2006 has been completed. This site will include the Turkish Bulletin of Pathology, the official bulletin of Ankara Pathology Society, published between 1974 and 1980 and between 1991 and 2002, as well as Aegean Pathology Journal published by Aegean Pathology Society between 2004 and 2006. Your help in providing the missing issue of Turkish Journal of Pathology in 1985 (vol: 1, no: 2) will be appreciated. With this page at the web site, which also includes author and article search engine, we will have the chance to get access the articles representing the background of Turkish Pathology. I gratefully acknowledge Dr. Havva Gökçe for her willing cooperation in constructing web archive; my colleagues and particularly Dr. Işın Kılıçaslan and Dr. Gökhan Gedikoğlu for their kind support in providing archival material; Canan Akkoç, Çiğdem Eratak and Aylin Gökduman from Pleksus. I am also indebted to Dr. Arzu Sungur, President of the Federation of Turkish Pathology Societies, and the Administrative Board for their generous support. Our next target is to develop an archival resource of lectures and abstracts presented in congresses and symposiums.

In June 2009, terms of reference for editorial board members were updated to relieve the work load of board members who had carried the burden of reviewing manuscripts since 2006, and the associate editors are now taking more active part in editing manuscripts. In this context, Dr. Funda Demirağ has been designated as an associate editor by the Federation of Turkish Pathology Societies. I strongly believe that their contribution will increase the number of qualified manuscripts hence the reputation of the journal in our region. I am glad to announce that the Federation of Turkish Pathology Societies has decided to give an award to one of the original articles published in that year, which will be presented in the annual National Pathology Congress. Further details concerning the terms and conditions for the award can be found in the newly constructed “Announcements” at the web site. In this page, you may also follow the last developments, and by filling the questionnaire you may help us to determine your expectations about the journal. “Popular articles”, the other newly designed page, may allow you to surf through the “most downloaded” and “most accessed” articles. For further inquiries and correspondence you may visit the journal's continuously renewed and updated web site at www.turkjpath.org.

Finally, I acknowledge Dr. Dilek Ertoy Baydar and Dr. Jonathan I. Ebstein for their invaluable contribution of a review article in this issue; Buluş Design and Printing for their care, concern and uncompromising standards, and Dr. Burak Bahadır for his valuable contribution in editing process.

With my best regards

Professor Şükrü Oğuz Özdamar, M.D.
