In 52 basal cell carcinoma patients, p53 expression was investigated on tumor and peripheral normal skin by immunhustochemistry, Lesion were localised on face and ear which were continuously ewposed to sun. The mean age was 57.0577 ± 12.962 years (range 33-72 years) p53 positivity rate was 65.4% (34/52) in neoplastic tissues and 14.3% (3/21) in control biopsies that were taken from unexposed skin (p<0.001). There were statistically significant relationship between tumor and peripheral normal tissues, among 22 of 45 patients whose normal skin could be seen next to basal cell carcinoma. This positivity rate was higher than the control group (p<0.001). There were statistically significant relationship between tumor and peripheral normal skin p53 positivity (p<0.001). There were no difference in p53 reactivity between patients who were younger than 45 years and older than 60 years (p>0.05). There were no relationship between age and peripheral skin p53 positivity, as well (p>0.05).
