Detection of HPV DNA in larynx precancerous lesions and carcinomas by ın situ hybridization method
Besides smoking, alcohol and radiation, human papilloma virus (HPV) infection is considered as an etiologic agent of larynx carcinomas.
In this study, we investigated the HPV positivity in larynx lesions and its relationship with the quantitative differences in Langerhans cells. The cases were investigated by in situ hybridization method for HPV DNA positivity and immunohistochemistry was applied for the quantitative differences of Langerhans cells in the lesions and normal adjacent tissues.
All the data are compared with each other and there was a relationship among HPV DNA positivity, koilocytosis and well differentiated squamous cell carcinomas (p=0.0005). HPV DNA positivity was shown in 69.2% 9/13) of the squamous cell carcinomas.
In conclusion, our results indicate that there has been a significant relation between the HPV DNA positivity and well differentiated squamous cell carcinomas.
