Epithelial membrane antigen and S-100 protein expressions in benign and malignant papillary thyroid neoplasms
Classical papillary structures and nuclear changes have importance in the diagnosis of papillary carcinoma. Papillary structures and nuclear changes may be seen in benign lesions. Immunhistochemical of glands ttat contain papillary carcinoma and papillary hyperplasia has been studied. By some authors EMA , S100 and cytokeratine expressions are useful markers in the differential diagnosis of papillary carcinoma and papillary hyperplasia. In this study 15 cases with papillary carcinoma and 10 cases with papillary hyperplasia are reevaluated with EMA and S100 immunhistochemically.
The aim of this study is to show the importance of different distribution of EMA and S100 positive substances in benign and malignant lesions of thyroid that contains papillary structures.
