Summary

Elastofibroma is a rare benign tumor involving almost exclusively the subscapular region of elderly individuals. In our two cases diagnosed as elastofibroma, macroscopically, the tumor was poorly circumscribed and the cut surface had an appearance of adipose tissue with gray- white solid areas. On microscopic examination, the tumor was composed of degenerated elastic fibers fragmented into globules and tubules in a poorly cellular hyalinized fibroadipose tissue. Verhoeff stain revealed deeply staining of elastic fibers. Immunhistochemically vimentin, CD 34 were positive and smooth muscle actin, desmin, S-100 protein were negative. Ultrastructure of elastic fibers was demonstrated with electron microscope. We discuss this rare neoplasm reviewing the literature.
