The evaluation of the quantitative prognostic factors in ovarian carcinomas of surface epithelial origin
Clinical stage is one of the most important prognostic factors in ovarian carcinomas of surface epithelial origin. However, this parameter may not be surcient in determining the prognosis. Therefore, other prognostic parameters are needed. Among these, quantitative pathologic prognostic factors have been described and their importance has increased in recent years.
In this study, three quantitative morphometric parameters based on the nuclear area of the neoplastic cells (MNA: mean nuclear area), the proportion of the neoplastic epithelium (VPE: volume percentage of epithelium) and the mitotic number (MAI: mitotic activity index) were evaluated. The correlation between the measurement results and survival probabilities have been evaluated statistically.
