Summary

The aim of this study is to review the histopathological and clinical features in malignant mixed Mullerian, tumors of the uterus. There were 14 patients who have been diagnosed as malignant mixed Mullerian tumor from 1997 to 2002 at Uludağ University Pathology .Department. The mean age was 67 (50-83) and all cases were postmenopausal except one. Abnormal uterine bleeding was the most frequent presenting symptom. Macroscopically, the tumors were polypoid shaped in all cases and the mean diameter was 6.8 cm (4-12 cm). Six cases were diagnosed as homologous and eight cases were diagnosed as heterologous mixed Mullerian tumor. Deep myometrial invasion was observed in seven cases and lymphovascular invasion was observed in five cases. One patient had pelvic and paraaortic lymph node metastasis. After the initial surgery, the patients were followed-up for mean 31 months (2-60 months). Four patients died, while the remaining eight patients were disease tree. Two patients were lost to follow-up. Malignant mixed Mullerian tumors have distinctive epidemiologic, clinical, and pathologic features. Their clinical symptoms are nonspesific and the prognosis is poor.
