Summary

Ciliated hepatic foregut cyst is a rare, congenital, solitary, nonneoplastic, epithelial cyst of the liver. It occurs more frequently in men and the patients are usually asymptomatic. A 31 years old man had died after sudden chest pain. A subcapsu-larly located cyst was detected in the liver tissue fragment which was sent to our laboratory after autopsy. The diameter of the uniocular cyst was 1 cm and the inner surface was smooth containing yellow colored mucoid fluid. Microscopically a cyst lined by ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelium was seen in the liver tissue. The cyst wall was composed of subepithelial connective tissue, smooth muscle layers and fibrous capsule. The goblet cells in the epithelium were stained positively with periodic acid-Schifi/alcian blue pH 2.5 and mucicarmine stains. This case was evaluated as ciliated hepatic foregut cyst with these findings. This rare entitiy and differential diagnosis were discussed in view of the literature.
