Summary
Solid-pseudopapillary neoplasm of pancreas (SPN) is a rare neoplasm which occurs predominantly in adolescent girls and young women. Tumor usually reveals as a large and well-defined abdominal mass. The prognosis is very good after surgical resection.The patient presented here is an 17-year-old female who admitted to the hospital with nause and abdominal pain. Computerized tomography revealed a mass in the tail of pancreas. The mass is excised totally. Macroscopically the tumor was large, round, well-demarcated and encapsulated. Sections showed a solid mass with cystic areas. Microscopic examination revealed a solid pattern with cystic areas and pseudopa-pillary structures. Immunohistochemically the tumor was positive for vimentin, cytokeratin, S-100, AFP and NSE, negative for chromogranin A. The case was diagnosed as solid-pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas. In conclusion this neoplasm, with a good prognosis, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of the pancreas tumors in young women.
